£14m player admits he now has January Premier League move agreed after West Ham approach
West Ham made a number of top signings this summer – although one target evaded Julen Lopetegui and Tim Steidten.
𓆉The latter – who is Director of Football at the London Stadium – managed to bring ten new players to east London, with Crysencio Summerville and Max Kilman the headline arrivals.
Now – however – the target West Ham failed to land has revealed he will be moving to the Premier League after all in January…
Diego Gomez agrees Brighton move despite West Ham talks
A story from Rudy Galetti claimed that West Ham made contact to sign Diego Gomez from Inter Miami back at the start of July.
ꦆThe Paraguay international caught Lopetegui and Steidten’s attention after shining alongside Lionel Messi for David Beckham’s Major League Soccer side, scoring six goals and providing six assists in 20 appearances from central midfield so far this season.

ꦑNow – however – Gomez has revealed that he will be signing for Brighton in January.
🐷Roberto Rojas of ESPN quotes the South American as saying: “It’s a dream come true for me and all of my family who have always supported me. I was talking already with (Brighton No.10) Julio Enciso. I’m always watching Brighton games. I love watching the Premier League.”
🍰Therefore, West Ham have now officially missed out on Gomez – who will join the Seagulls in a deal worth around .
Hammers potentially dodged a bullet
✨While the Paraguayan seems like a top talent, there are reasons for Brighton to be wary about signing a leading Major League Soccer player.
ܫThe last man to make a headline switch from Major League Soccer to the Premier League was Miguel Almiron, who convinced Mike Ashley to spend £20m to bring him from Atlanta to Newcastle in January 2019 – which speaks volumes given how stingy the retail tycoon was with spending on Tyneside.
🐷In the United States, the Paraguay international was a star, scoring 22 goals and providing 21 assists in 70 appearances for Atlanta, but has netted just 30 in 212 games for the Magpies.

Unsurprisingly, Newcastle are now trying to sell Almiron🍷 – who is surplus to requirements under Eddie Howe.
ﷺTherefore, Gomez may well struggle in England like his fellow Paraguayan, so West Ham shouldn’t feel too upset about missing out on the Inter Miami No.20’s signature to Brighton.
