‘You see the quality’…Martin Odegaard says one of his Arsenal teammates was just ‘brilliant’ v Man City
Arsenal held on for a point against Manchester City today as they showed they are more than up for the fight of winning the Premier League title.
In the end, the game was a bit of a let down as both sides failed to create many big chances and defences ended up coming out on top.
For Arsenal, going to City and ensuring they weren’t beaten was a big sign of progress. It means they’ve also got the upper-hand on their rivals this season, which could prove crucial come May.
Of course, for Arsenal to win out at The Etihad and take something home required a stern defensive display.
The central defensive partnership of Gabriel and William Saliba was once again impressive. And speaking about his teammates, Martin Odegaard had some high praise for one of the pair.

Odegaard actually cut a bit of a disappointed figure in his post-match interview. The Arsenal skipper felt his team could have done more, admitting that being better with the ball was possible.
“We had to defend a lot, a lot more than we planned to. We were dangerous in certain moments when we had the counters, but it is hard to keep the ball and build when you have defended for so long. Your legs are heavy. In the moments we managed to take the ball and get forward we looked dangerous and could have even won it at the end,” Odegaard .
However, the Norwegian was also happy with his defenders, and reserved special praise for French defender Saliba.
“Any team in the world would miss this guy. You see the quality he has on and off the ball, so I am glad he is fit now. Brilliant player and brilliant performance again today,” Odegaard .
William Saliba is world class
Make no mistake about it, William Saliba is one of the top defenders in world football right now.
The Frenchman looks at ease against most strikers in the world and up against Erling Haaland, he made him look average.
Of course, the partnership with Gabriel is massive as well and it’s not all Saliba. But in the main, he is the one who just seems to inspire the rest of the back four around him.
Gary Neville lauded Saliba as his player of the match as well and rightly so.
With Arsenal so close to being champions if they can continue this current form, the loss of Saliba last year is even more apparent.
Right now, he is their main man at the back and could well end up being their player of the season.
