‘Yes’: Alan Shearer urges Newcastle United to sign 21-year-old after watching him in the World Cup final today
Alan Shearer has admitted that he would love Newcastle United to sign Argentina star Enzo Fernandez after watching him in the World Cup final today.
Newcastle are flying high in the Premier League and headed into the World Cup as one of the best teams in the division. Eddie Howe has guided the Magpies to a brilliant first-half of the campaign and they currently sit third in the league.
The Geordies haven’t lost a game since August and Howe will be keen to bolster his squad in January as they aim to maintain their push for Champions League football.
Fernandez played a key role in Argentina’s victory in Qatar and helped Lionel Messi to his first ever World Cup.
The 21-year-old completed the full 120 minutes as La Albiceleste beat France on penalties after a thrilling final.
The Benfica star has been linked with a move to Liverpool in recent weeks, with Argentinian outlet claiming that the Reds have already reached a pre-agreement with the player ahead of a possible move to Anfield.
But Shearer has admitted that he would love to see Fernandez move to St James’ Park after watching his display today.

Gary Lineker and Shearer spoke about Fernadez’s impact for Argentina while watching Lionel Scaloni’s men lift the World Cup today.
The former Tottenham striker then asked Shearer if he would like to see him wearing a ‘black and white’ shirt.
“Absolutely, yes. See if he wants to play against Bournemouth on Tuesday,” Shearer responded.
It was all about Lionel Messi and his bid to win the World Cup today but the rest of Argentina’s squad have been excellent alongside him.
Fernadez is certainly one of them as he has been a mainstay in Scaloni’s midfield. He was also handed the Young Player of the Tournament award after the game.
The talented youngster scored a memorable goal in the group stages against Mexico and didn’t lose his place in the side thereafter.
At just 23, Fernandez looks to have an incredibly bright future ahead of him and he has announced himself on the biggest stage over the past month. he would a brilliant addition to Howe’s squad, but the a possible move certainly seems unlikely at this moment in time.
reports that Benfica are set to demand that the player’s full £103 million release clause and while Newcastle may have the financial muscle to sign Fernandez, they will face stiff competition for his signature.
