Yerry Mina looks to have been worth the wait – Kurt Zouma has work to do

Everton defender Yerry Mina may have ousted Kurt Zouma from Marco Silva’s starting XI.

The Colombian World Cup star was picked by the Portuguese to partner Michael Keane in defence for the second game running against Cardiff City.

The towering star hardly put a foot wrong all afternoon for the Toffees.

He showed a good touch on the ball, and was well positioned to deal with any of Cardiff’s threats.

He also dominated proceedings in the air, as is usually expected of him given his 6ft 5in frame.

Mina worth the wait

He’s only made a couple of appearances but Mina already looks to be well worth the wait following his early season injury frustrations.

Kurt Zouma was improving week on week alongside Keane, but Silva has taken a risk by pulling him out in favour of Mina and the decision appears to have been vindicated.

Mina looks more assured than the Frenchman, and the star on loan from Chelsea might have some work to do now to get back into the side.

It’s probably in Silva’s best interests to go with Mina from here, especially because there’s no guarantees over Zouma’s long-term future.

Mina joined the club from Barcelona for £27.19 million () on transfer deadline day back in the summer. His performances at the World Cup suggested he’d be a great signing, and Toffees supporters have witnessed a great start from the new man.
