Yannick Bolasie has a cheeky message for Aston Villa after promotion win

Aston Villa have achieved promotion to the Premier League. Dean Smith’s side secured a 2-1 win in the Championship play-off final yesterday to return to the top-flight.

Aston Villa have not found it easy to reach this point this season. They were struggling to stay in contention under Steve Bruce and, at first, Smith struggled after arriving from Brentford.

However, he soon put his own stamp on the team and an incredible winning streak saw Aston Villa come into the play-offs as the in-form team.

One of the players who did not feature in the plans for Smith, but did under Bruce, was Yannick Bolasie.

Signed on loan from Everton in the summer it looked a great deal for the club. However, Bolasie struggled for consistency at Villa Park.

In January, Aston Villa cancelled his loan spell in order to get his reported £70,000-a-week salary off their books.

But the DR Congo winner clearly wants his play-off winners medal. Taking to twitter, the good-humored attacker sent a predictably cheeky congratulations tweet to his former team.

Of course, some Aston Villa fans were quick to let Bolasie know what they thought of his performances at Villa Park.

Bolasie certainly struggled for form but one thing you can be sure of with the winger is that he would have been equally if not more, disappointed that he failed to be a hit at Aston Villa.

Aston Villa have done it without him and, in the end, they had to considering those hefty wages. But he still played a part in what has been a topsy-turvy and memorable season for the Aston Villa support.
