Xherdan Shaqiri posts touching message to Liverpool fans after permanent move to Lyon
Xherdan Shaqiri completed a move to Lyon last week on a permanent basis, after three tricky seasons at Liverpool. The Switzerland star struggled to remain fit. A lack of momentum saw him struggle to maintain game time. Shaqiri leaves for Lyon, sending an Instagram message to Liverpool fans.
The 29-year-old managed just 63 appearances throughout his three seasons at Liverpool – scoring eight goals. While he struggled with injury, he was still capable of moments of magic – his gorgeous assist for Gini Wijnaldum’s header in the Barcelona comeback an example. But he has now left.
Shaqiri has left Liverpool for Lyon, signing a three-year deal – completing a move to France for a fee of £5million (). Since his move has been confirmed, Shaqiri has posted pictures to Lyon fans. But on Sunday , Shaqiri eventually sent a heartfelt Instagram message to Liverpool fans.

For Lyon, it is a signing that needed to happen. The French club are in disarray after a woeful start to the Ligue 1 campaign. Two dismal losses in their first two games, including a 3-0 pummelling by Angers, has seen new gaffer Peter Bosz immediately under pressure.
Leading 3-1 against Clermont with 10 minutes to go on Sunday, a win looked assured. But Lyon conceded two late goals, to the dismay of the home support. Shaqiri has got his move, but he will need to hit the ground running with the Lyon supprt already frustrated at this early stage.
