Xherdan Shaqiri and Adam Lallana react as Nat Phillips shines for Liverpool on Thursday
Nat Phillips came off the bench at half-time to help Liverpool get back to winning ways with a stunning 3-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur – and the player has received plenty of plaudits on Instagram from the likes of Xherdan Shaqiri and Adam Lallana.
Phillips, 23, was handed just his fifth Liverpool appearance in all competitions on Thursday night as he replaced the injured Joel Matip. He partnered captain Jordan Henderson in the middle of the defence, with Fabinho also missing entirely.
The former Bolton man was calm, assured and certainly put his case forward to start against West Ham United on Sunday evening. Though he was helped by Harry Kane going off at half-time, £2.5million-rated ( Phillips was without fault.
The defender posted on Instagram after helping Liverpool will win their first game in six Premier League matches – uploading a three-word verdict following the 3-1 in which Roberto Firmino, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Sadio Mane scored.
Pundits, especially on BT Sport after the match, stated that Liverpool have got to be looking at a centre-back. Matip joins Joe Gomez and Virgil van Dijk on the long-term list of absentees and while Fabinho is only a minor issue, he is also injured.
But Phillips did himself no harm in proving to Klopp that he deserves to be given the chance to add to his tally of four Premier League appearances. Lallana, Jordan Henderson, Xherdan Shaqiri, John Achterberg and others responded.
