Xavi has personally asked Barcelona to go and sign ‘underrated’ Tottenham star in January

Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez has requested his club to sign Giovani Lo Celso from Tottenham Hotspur in the January transfer window.

Ange Postecoglou has completely revolutionised the club, hasn’t he? Spurs have become such a fun side to watch, and even the likes of Lo Celso, who didn’t look like he had a future at Tottenham, is playing really well.

Xavi has asked Barcelona to sign Tottenham’s Giovani Lo Celso

Giovani Lo Celso has been at Tottenham since the summer of 2019, but he has never quite been able to nail down a place as a starter.

The Argentine, on his day, is a wonderful footballer. He is great on the ball, can pick out key passes, and as he has shown recently, he can score goals too.

That makes him a terrific player to have, and the fact that he is still only 27 means he’s about to enter the prime years of his career.

Barcelona were linked with a move to sign Lo Celso in the summer, but no move materialised. However, Fabrizio Romano claimed on recently that Xavi still likes the Tottenham man and thinks he’s a very ‘underrated’ player.

Now, Sky Sports journalist Lyall Thomas has revealed that the Barca boss has requested his club’s transfer chiefs to sign Lo Celso in January.

Thomas : “Xavi is determined to sign Tottenham’s Giovani Lo Celso for Barcelona in January and requested the club get it done in what is seen as a test of their support for him.

“Interesting conundrum for Spurs with 18 months left on his deal.”

Tottenham should not sell Lo Celso

Giovani Lo Celso may not be good enough to be a regular starter for Tottenham, but he’s still a quality player to have in the squad.

Spurs lost James Maddison to an injury and he has been a big miss. Lo Celso has scored a couple of goals since he took the Englishman’s place in the side, including one against Manchester City.

That shows he is more than good enough to play for this Tottenham side, and even though he will not get many starts once Maddison returns, we think keeping hold of him until the end of the season makes sense.

However, if a good offer does land on Daniel Levy‘s table next month, we won’t be surprised to see him be sold.
