Xabi Alonso sends Arsenal transfer message with big claim about Rodrygo’s future

Arsenal have been handed an early setback in the summer transfer window following Xabi Alonso’s first comments as Real Madrid manager.

The Gunners finished second in the Premier League for the third consecutive season, missing out on the title to Liverpool this time.

Their season ended without a trophy yet again, as Mikel Arteta’s trophy drought continues despite having spent over £700m in transfers.

He is expected to invest heavily again this summer, with a new attacker high on Arsenal’s priority list. One player they have shown strong interest in is Real Madrid star Rodrygo.

Rodrygo endured a challenging season in Madrid, struggling for minutes following the arrival of Kylian Mbappe.

The lack of playing time has resulted in links with a move away, with several clubs interested in signing him.

Liverpool have been linked with Rodrygo this summer, but it is the Gunners whose links are much more concrete. It is reported that Rodrygo is Arsenal’s ‘dream’ signing.

However, the new Madrid manager may now have dealt Mikel Arteta a blow in their pursuit of the attacker.

Speaking to the media about the Brazilian, he said: “Rodrygo? He’s a fantastic player, and we will need him. I will talk to him soon.”

Other attackers on Arsenal’s radar

While Rodrygo is their dream target, the club is also considering other options. One of the options Arsenal are keen on is Brighton’s Japanese star Kaoru Mitoma.

Mitoma is available for £42m, with Bayern Munich keen on signing him. Arsenal are also linked with Nico Williams but a deal for him will not be easy.

The Gunners are also linked with Viktor Gyokeres, the Sporting Lisbon striker who has impressed with his outrageous goal-scoring numbers this season.

The Swede has scored 54 goals and assisted another 13 in 52 games across all competitions this season.

With the right signings this summer, there is no reason why Arsenal cannot go and pose a serious challenge in the title race next season.
