Xabi Alonso in talks to sign ‘unbelievable’ player who has just left Liverpool
Xabi Alonso’s Bayer Leverkusen are reportedly in talks to sign a player who was recently released by Liverpool.
It’s been an immense summer of change at Anfield following some big departures, with manager Jurgen Klopp leaving after nine years in the role as Liverpool also said goodbye to a number of senior players after their contracts expired.
With Thiago Alcantara calling time on his playing career and joining FC Barcelona’s coaching staff, key figures for Liverpool in recent years have already settled at new clubs, with Adrian also returning to Spain by signing for Real Betis.
And another senior player released by Liverpool could be ready for a big move.

Leverkusen in talks to sign former Liverpool defender Joel Matip
According to Sky Sports journalist Florian Plettenberg, former Liverpool centre-back Joel Matip has held talks with Leverkusen over a potential move, with the Cameroonian defender now a free agent after leaving Anfield this summer.
Plettenberg wrote: “Bayer 04 Leverkusen is very interested to sign Joel Matip as a free agent! First talks took place. Xavi Alonso wants to strengthen the team with an experienced central defender.”
With recent reports suggesting that Matip was struggling to find a new club, news that Matip could be close to signing for the Bundesliga giants and playing under a Reds legend in Alonso will be music to the ears of many Liverpool supporters.
Indeed, Germany always felt like the most ideal landing spot for Matip since departing Anfield, and with the defender now in talks to join the best team in the Bundesliga and the reigning champions, the centre-back could be set for another incredible adventure.

Matip could be an incredible signing for Leverkusen this summer
Once hailed as by Virgil van Dijk, Matip is clearly good enough to still play at the highest level in Europe and with one of the best teams on the continent, such as Leverkusen.
And this move, should it go through, could be a fantastic deal for all parties involved, with Alonso signing a top defender who can be trusted in both the Bundesliga and in the UEFA Champions League as Matip gets to return to Germany with one of the best teams in Europe.
After an incredible career with Liverpool, Matip taking his talents to Leverkusen feels like a logical step for the defender, who could thrive back in Germany after a fantastic few years at Anfield with the Reds.
