4 possible Mousa Dembele replacements for Tottenham to consider
, Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Mousa Dembele has ‘offered his services’ to Juventus.
The Belgian dynamo has been linked with a move to the Italian giants for most of the summer.
Fans half-expected him to leave the club however, a move never materialised.
But Calciomercato reporter Fabrizio Romano has reason to believe Dembele does indeed want out.
And if there’s any truth in it, Spurs will need to start thinking about players who could possibly replace him – which is no easy feat given the unique qualities the player brings.
Here a few options for Spurs to explore in January or next summer:
Frenkie de Jong – Ajax
Sections of the media have linked de Jong with a move to the north Londoners recently and he would certainly ease any blow of losing Dembele.
The Dutchman, 21, plays for Ajax and Spurs have obviously done business with the European giants before.
claim he’d cost a whopping £67 million.
He plays with style just as Dembele does, and is impressively comfortable under pressure in his own half. Again, just like Dembele.
de Jong, enticingly, can operate as a central defender or holding midfielder and loves to break the lines.
Manu Trigueros – Villarreal
Trigueros would represent a more elegant kind of player than Dembele, who is more of a bullish ball-carrier type.
Very rarely does Trigueros have a bad game for Villarreal, and he operates in all the same kind of areas as Dembele.
His passing range is fantastic, and he is also a very handy shield for the defence.
Allan – Napoli
Jorginho took most of the plaudits last season as Napoli ran Juventus to within an inch of the Scudetto.
But operating alongside him was the tough-tackling Brazilian Allan, who was just as key to the Partenopei’s system.
Allan is a brilliant box-to-box midfielder, who is capable of dribbling through the lines or splitting them with a precision through ball. He also has decent strength for his small stature.
Wilfred Ndidi – Leicester City
Leicester’s Ndidi is rapidly becoming one of the Premier League’s better holding midfield players.
The lanky Nigerian is a tremendous ball-winner, and often storms his way past opposing midfield players.
Aged 21, he’s still very young, but he’s definitely caught the eye since arriving in English football and seems destined to move to a bigger club in the future.
He doesn’t yet have the technique and grace of Dembele, but Mauricio Pochettino could be the perfect coach for him.
He’s valued at £22.5 million by Transfermarkt, although Leicester would undoubtedly want more than that.
