‘Wow’ – Max Aarons identifies Liverpool star as best full-back he’s faced
Norwich City defender Max Aarons has told the that the first game of the season defeat at Liverpool gave the Canaries a benchmark to aspire to.
Daniel Farke’s team are bottom of the Premier League during their maiden campaign back in the top-flight.
Despite sitting at the root of the division they have played some nice football at times.
Right-back Aarons has certainly caught the eye. The £30m-rated star has emerged as a potential signing for Arsenal and Tottenham during the summer
The 20-year-old has played 30 games during the campaign and he believes the opening game at Anfield was a culture shock.
“The first game of the season was against Liverpool, we’d just walked out, started playing and we had a few chances. About 10 minutes into it they started to really turn it on and the tempo they were moving the ball was something I’d never experienced.
“The tempo was so quick and I remember having (Andrew) Robertson running at me, (Georginio) Wijnaldum running past the back four. We were 4-0 down at half-time and I thought to myself ‘wow, this is the level that we should be aspiring to get to’.
“The game ended up finishing 4-1 and I remember saying to Ben Godfrey, ‘wow, this is very sharp and this is the top-level’,”
Norwich could well end up back in the Championship next season but it seems unlikely that Aarons will be with them.
The Canaries star cites Robertson as the toughest full-back and there are certain similarities in the styles.
Aarons is an all-action full-back who loves to get forward and he could well be facing Robertson again next season but this time playing for Arsenal or Spurs.
Class
The City youngster is still relatively raw but he does look set for a bright future.
If Norwich do get relegated cashing in on Aarons looks likely a sensible option.
At £30 million it would hand Farke plenty of funds to give his squad the best possible chance of an instant return.
