Wout Weghorst doubles down on his Liverpool transfer dream

Dutch international striker Wout Weghorst has been discussing his dream of one day playing for Liverpool.

The Wolfsburg striker has about his plans for the future and admitted that a move to Premier League is on his agenda. Liverpool would clearly be his club of choice if he did indeed make the switch to England.

“I always found Liverpool very special. I still get goosebumps from ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’. There are other great English clubs too, and I always liked Milan because so many Dutch played there.

“I am ambitious and want to get ahead. Maybe at some point play at another club, whether in Germany or in England? But at the moment it is still far away. I feel good and try to achieve the maximum here.”

It is not the first time that Weghorst has spoken about his desire to play for Liverpool. Back in 2018, £10m move from AZ Alkmaar to Wolfsburg, the frontmanhe was ready to work hard enough to make his Liverpool ‘dream’ come true.

Weghorst is, of course, an international team-mate of both Gigi Wijnaldum and Virgil van Dijk for the Netherlands and both players would undoubtedly welcome the 6ft 6ins star into the Liverpool fold.

The 27-year-old would certainly be a different option for Liverpool, more of your traditional target-man striker.

But his scoring record should not be shirked at. Weghorst has 15 goals in 34 games this season and in his career has an impressive 124 goals in 295 club appearances.

Whilst no Roberto Firmino, Weghorst would undoubtedly be an interesting option for Liverpool should Jurgen Klopp ever be in need of a new centre-forward.

However, considering the standard Liverpool are now operating at, Weghorst would likely have to make an impact at a lesser Premier League team first, before the Reds came calling.
