‘Would’ve been crucial’: Some Liverpool fans gutted after hearing who won’t play against Newcastle

A number of Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to bemoan Nathaniel Phillips’ continued absence, as confirmed by Reds boss Jurgen Klopp on Friday.

The 24-year-old defender began the season as a fringe player, but Klopp drafted him into first-team action amid a crisis at centre-back.

Phillips has grown into the role, putting in a number of great performances over the past few months including against Real Madrid.

However, a hamstring injury ruled him out of Monday’s Premier League draw with Leeds.

With Newcastle visiting Anfield in Saturday’s early kickoff, Klopp revealed that the 6ft 3in ace will miss out once again.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference on Friday, he : “No, Nat Phillips is not back. Curtis (Jones) is back, yeah, that’s true. All the others not.”

Given the potential for the Magpies to attempt long-ball tactics against the Reds, Phillips would’ve surely played a crucial role in stemming opposition attacks.

However, some Liverpool fans are not only gutted about the player himself missing, but they also fear Klopp will opt for Fabinho at centre-back.
