‘Wouldn’t rule it out’: £33m striker could have his contract terminated, after links with Everton – journalist
One of those players was Michy Batshuayi, who hasn’t been given a squad number by the Blues this season.
“I wouldn’t rule out contract terminations for players such as Batshuayi.
“That was mentioned to me a few weeks ago, that if Chelsea still have players like him and Kenedy still in the squad come the last week, then they’re not against terminating their contracts just to move them on and give (Thomas) Tuchel a squad of players that, ideally, he’s going to be confident to pick.”
This could be good news for Everton who have been linked with Batshuayi this summer.
Frank Lampard’s side have had to be careful with how they spend their cash in this window.
They’ve already spent £33m on midfielder Amadou Onana, and £21m on Dwight McNeil.
These purchases have been funded by the sale of Richarlison to Tottenham, but other incomings are still needed.
Batshuayi could have contract terminated
, Batshuayi’s Chelsea career has been turbulent to say the least.
Loaned out on five separate occasions, he’s only got 12 months left on his contract.
Chelsea clearly have no plans for him this season, and there seems to be little reason to keep him at Stamford Bridge for one more year.
Batshuayi’s contract being terminated could really benefit Everton as they look to sign another forward.
Frenchman Neal Maupay recently made the move to Goodison Park, but will like be a back-up to Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
Batshuayi would be genuine competition for Calvert-Lewin if Everton signed him.
An established Belgian international, Batshuayi needs minutes under his belt to make Roberto Martinez’s World Cup squad.
His international scoring record is exceptional, netting 25 times in 45 appearances.
If Lampard can extract that form from him at Everton, they would have a seriously good striker on their hands.
