Would these three clever signings ensure Northampton Town’s League One survival?

Kyel Reid – Free Agent (Released from Preston North End)

Kyel Reid, 28, is the hallmark of an experienced Football League player, having had spells at Charlton, Bradford City and most recently Preston North End. It’s this familiarity with the higher leagues that could come in handy with the relative inexperience of the current Cobblers side.

After not having his contract renewed at Deepdale, Reid will be looking for a new club and he could fit right into a confident Northampton side that are looking to make their mark on League One.

How would he fit into Northampton’s midfield set-up?

With Wilder now gone, as alluded to earlier, there is a worry among Northampton supporters that he’ll try and take star-man Ricky Holmes with him. If this was to happen at some point in the next three months, Reid could slot into his natural position on the wing, and support target man Marc Richards up front on his own.

If Holmes doesn’t leave the Cobblers, then first and foremost Reid would help solidify the squad for when injuries inevitably happen, and act as a more than capable replacement. Alternatively, Reid is made from a completely different mould to the likes of Holmes, Alfie Potter, Nicky Adams and Sam Hoskins, in the way that he’s more of an out and out winger.

With this in mind, he would add another dimension to Northampton’s attacking play which saw them take the League Two title, bringing a more direct approach with no fear to take on his man.
