Would these three clever signings ensure Northampton Town’s League One survival?

Ollie Watkins – Exeter City

The 18-year-old Exeter academy player has hit the headlines in the last third of the season, pushing Exeter from mid-table to the brink of the play-offs with seven goals in an eight game spell. With his whole career ahead of him, an early move up the leagues could really put the youngster in the spotlight.

Is he needed at the Cobblers?

With the on-loan John Marquis set to return to Millwall after his late season goal-scoring antics, and main striker Marc Richards struggling with recurring injuries, another frontman needs to be on the books at Sixfields to have any chance of staying in League One for another year.

Watkins’ raw pace and ability with the ball at his feet is something that has been missing at Northampton since the exit of Ivan Toney to Newcastle, and could be used to frighten the best of defences.
