Would Liverpool do well to recoup £12m for Lazar Markovic by selling him to Watford?
Liverpool could be set to cash in on one of their unwanted squad players as the say that the Reds will lower their asking price in order to sell him to Watford. That will see the club take an £8 million loss on the player they signed three years ago as a bright young talent, with his price tag now at £12 million.
Is it a good deal for Liverpool?
Having been signed for £20 million, taking an £8 million loss only 34 appearances later, it would be easy to say that it is a disastrous deal for the Reds. However, given the circumstances, £12 million seems a good value to achieve for the Serbian.
Markovic failed to show many signs of ever reaching his full potential whilst away on loan at Fenerbahce, Sporting Lisbon or Hull, and didn’t show any indication that he could be good enough to become a regular starter for Jurgen Klopp. Having failed to impress in pre-season last season, it’s clear that he has no future at Anfield.

Whilst £12 million may represent a substantial loss, it will be reinvested in the squad this summer and will be needed to improve the quality of the squad.
Is it a good deal for Watford?
During his time at Hull, Markovic showed that he can fill in for a mid-table or bottom half Premier League side, and clearly did enough to convince Marco Silva. With two goals in 12 games, Silva will remain hopeful that with backing behind him and youth on his side at 23 years of age, Markovic can still go some way to become a real asset for his side.
His pace and trickery are exactly what the Hornets were lacking at times last season, and Silva can at least rely on the fact that he knows what Markovic is capable of.
£12 million may be slightly on the higher side of what the Hornets may have been looking to pay, but for a 23-year-old with Premier League experience, they could certainly have done far worse.
