Would Dortmund’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang be worth £68.5million to Manchester United or Manchester City?
After ongoing speculation, Borussia Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke was forced to answer questions on the future of striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and he revealed to that a bid worth £68.5 million could be enough to make the German club consider whether or not to cash in on their star man, saying:
“We can never guarantee that a player will stay with Borussia Dortmund forever, but our strength is to always find new solutions. Auba was our alternative to ‘the world ending’ after Lewandowski’s departure. With an €80m [£68.5m] offer, I would be thinking about [club president] Reinhard Rauball and [sporting director] Michael Zorc – if we had one, we would have to get together with Pierre-Emerick [to discuss it].”
What would he bring to the Premier League?
Pace, drive and goals. Aubameyang is strong and not afraid to run at defenders. Usually playing as a central striker, he is often found drifting wide and then cutting back inside on the edge of the box where his pace means that he rarely struggles to beat his man and also has the ability to score from distance. His superb scoring record of 16 goals in 15 Bundesliga games this season only goes to show just how prolific the Gabon international can be. Captain of his national team and the talisman for Thomas Tuchel’s team, he knows what it is like to play under pressure and lead a side.
Is a move likely?
It does seem that the 27-year-old is considering his future at present, with Dortmund once again flattering to deceive in the Bundesliga and with a number of Europe’s biggest clubs circling. Real Madrid have also been linked alongside the two Manchester clubs, but it is hard to see where either would fit in with Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Sergio Aguero leading the lines. Money could talk, and Aubameyang could be the next big thing that both clubs are looking for.
Would he be worth £68.5 million?
It’s hard to say. If United are looking for a replacement for Zlatan Ibrahimovic and see the striker as a long term option, then he could be. It is hard to see how he would fit into either club immediately if he was to make the move this year. With United also said to be considering a move for Antoine Griezmann, it seems unlikely that they may move for the Gabon international, and with Sergio Aguero already City’s star man, a Premier League move seems unlikely at such a price.
