‘Worrying’… Chris Sutton claims 58-year-old is now causing a big issue for Brendan Rodgers at Celtic

Chris Sutton believes that some of Celtic’s problems are being caused by a person who is not even at the club.

The former Celtic hero was speaking after Celtic’s loss to Kilmarnock but said that one of Brendan Rodgers‘ biggest problems is following in the footsteps of Ange Postecoglou.

Sutton said [], “Brendan Rodgers’ issue is following Postecoglou. We see what football he plays at Tottenham.

“It was fast and furious under Postecoglou, there have been patches in games even in the first half an hour against Kilmarnock, Celtic were very good and didn’t take their chances. But there are worrying signs as far as I can see.

“I don’t think the fan base are fooled by what’s going on. The biggest worry at the weekend is that you can lose many ways, you can be outplayed by many teams, but you can’t be outrun or outfought and that’s what Kilmarnock did.

“Celtic seemed to freeze and show a fear and the truth is that domestically that shouldn’t happen.”

It’s very hard to disagree with any of the points Sutton has made here. When Brendan Rodgers was appointed to take over a Treble-winning team playing some of the best football the fans have seen, the supporters were excited to see where Rodgers could take them.

With the Celtic manager coming in and telling everyone he wanted to make a mark in Europe, a mixture of Rodgers’ pragmatism combined with Postecoglou’s free-flowing attacking side convinced the fans that it was possible to achieve something special in Europe.

Especially with the amount of funds that were supposed to be available to him. Unfortunately, eight players and one point in the Champions League later, the reality has seriously outweighed the expectations.

Celtic, under Rodgers, are no better off in Europe than they were under Ange. Unless they secure all three points against Feyenoord they will officially have gone backwards.

And that is something the Celtic fans never expected this season.
