‘World class’ player has now agreed to sign for Arsenal on a four-year contract

Arsenal have had a slower start than usual to the summer transfer window heading into next season.

Indeed, it’s almost August and Arsenal have only made one major first-team signing so far in the shape of Riccardo Calafiori.

By contrast, this time last year the likes of Kai Havertz, Declan Rice and Jurrien Timber were already through the door.

Arsenal haven’t been that quick in terms of making new signings so far, but that could be about to change.

Arsenal have been strongly linked to Mikel Merino recently, and, by the sounds of things, this deal is progressing now.

Mikel Merino has agreed Arsenal contract

According to Sports Zone, Mikel Merino has now agreed a four-year contract with Arsenal.

The Spaniard is said to have agreed personal terms with Arsenal, and now, a fee just needs to be agreed.

Merino has a £55m release clause in his contract, but Arsenal won’t be keen to pay that sort of fee.

Arsenal are said to be ready to pay an initial £25m for Merino, and with just one year left on his Real Sociedad contract, that may be a tempting deal for the Basque side.

Mikel Merino to Arsenal looks likely

Merino to Arsenal now looks like it may just be a matter of time.

Indeed, it’s not very often that you agree personal terms with a player if you’re not going to press ahead with a deal.

£25m isn’t a lot of money for a team like Arsenal, and while Real Sociedad may hold out for a slightly larger fee, it shouldn’t be that difficult for both clubs to come to an agreement here.

The ‘world class’ midfielder has been one of Arsenal’s top targets heading into this transfer window, and now, it looks as though they may finally get their man.

Don’t be surprised if this is a done deal before Arsenal’s season opener against Wolves.
