PSG closing in on Joao Neves

Arsenal have been heavily linked with Benfica midfielder Joao Neves in recent weeks, though, they could be about to miss out on his signature.

According to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano, PSG have submitted a formal bid to sign Neves, who has been labelled as ‘world class’ per , following an agreement on personal terms earlier this week.

Neves is thought to be keen on a move to Paris so at this stage, a late hijack from Arsenal seems very unlikely, especially with their primary focus on landing Calafiori.

Arsenal chiefs will have to move on to other targets, with one in particular understood to be at the top of their shortlist.

Arsenal focusing on Mikel Merino

Arsenal are thought to be focusing on a move for Real Sociedad midfielder Mikel Merino, who has been in direct contact with Arteta.

They’re also looking at his teammate Martin Zubimendi, who starred against England in the Euro 2024 final after replacing Rodri.

Though, unlike Merino, Zubimendi is expected to cost a substantial wedge, with a £52m price tag mooted.

That deal would take up a lot of the allocated funds towards signing a forward, so it’s unlikely a move for the 25-year-old materialises.

In other news, Arsenal have opened talks to sell their ‘incredible’ £50m attacking player.
