‘World-class’ Arsenal target has just rejected the chance to join PSG
With just over three weeks of the transfer window remaining, it’s something of a surprise that Arsenal haven’t already recruited a midfielder.
TBR Football recently shared that Arsenal expect Thomas Partey to leave this summer – perhaps anticipating late interest from Saudi Arabia.
Emile Smith Rowe has already left for Fulham, and whilst the Hale-Ender wasn’t playing significant minutes before his departure, Arsenal still look lighter for options.
If Declan Rice is once again envisioned as a number eight by Mikel Arteta this season, then it seems something of a risk to start the new season with Jorginho and Partey as the only sixes – in the event that the Ghanaian stays.
Of course, if both were unavailable then Rice could drop back into the pivot, but Arsenal would then look short of options further forward – it’s clear that a new signing is needed.
And whilst Arsenal are locked in negotiations for Mikel Merino, they’ve also been linked with some loftier targets this summer, players who would immediately raise the bar.
Arsenal target Joshua Kimmich has just said no to Paris Saint-Germain
Throughout the summer, Arsenal have been linked with Joshua Kimmich, who now only has one-year left on his Bayern Munich contract.
It was even reported that Kimmich would be willing to join Arsenal – a move that would make a lot of sense from Arteta’s perspective.

A ‘world-class’ talent like Kimmich could definitely help Arsenal bridge the gap to Manchester City, able to offer his rich skill-set in midfield or at right-back.
That being said, Kimmich has just rejected an approach from PSG, and may not leave Bayern after all.
Journalist shared the update on X, saying that Kimmich had now started ‘positive talks’ about a new contract.
Plettenberg said: “Joshua Kimmich has rejected the possibility to join Paris Saint-Germain in August.
“PSG have informed FC Bayern about their concrete interest to sign him but Kimmich said no. Bayern informed about his decision to stay.
“First positive talks about a new contract beyond 2025 have started now. Bayern need to find a solution as they won’t lose him for free next year. With a suitable offer, they would have sold him this summer.
“A contract extension with a salary waiver is now conceivable for both parties. However, it will not be decided in the short term.”
Kimmich was Arsenal’s ticket to Premier League glory
From an Arsenal point of view, the most frustrating line of that update must be the fact that Bayern would have sold Kimmich if a suitable offer arrived this summer.
It was reported that Kimmich could leave for as little as £25m this summer.
The German is still only 29-years-old meaning that he could have easily fulfilled a four-year contract in the Premier League, playing to the highest level.
That being said, Arsenal fans will still be happy if Merino arrives this summer, an effective acquisition in his own right.
Although, it’s interesting to see that Manchester United are now chasing a midfielder who rejected Arsenal earlier this summer.
