‘Wonderful young man’: Noel Whelan sings praises of Leeds United’s Jamie Shackleton on Twitter
Former Leeds United striker and now pundit, Noel Whelan, has branded Jamie Shackleton a ‘fantastic’ talent following his first senior goal against Derby at the weekend.
The youngster was given the nod by Marcelo Bielsa from the start and he repaid his boss with a fine performance against the Rams.

Shackleton then rounded off his display with an excellent finish to put Leeds 2-1 up, before a Matthew Clarke own goal made it 3-1 with five minutes to play.
And Whelan, who co-commentates on every Leeds game, took to to sing the praises of Shackleton in response to a Tweet from the youngster’s Mum.
He is a wonderful young man and a pleasure to talk to and a fantastic player with a great career ahead of him I’m sure your as much proud of him as he is of you , enjoy the celebration as a family MOT

It was a nice touch from Whelan, who has clearly been impressed with what he has seen this season at Elland Road, including the budding through of young players such as Shackleton.
Fellow young stars like Ian Poveda and Pascal Strujik were also given their chance by Bielsa this weekend. Both played important roles, too, coming in for praise themselves from supporters and pundits alike.

Amongst all the established talent at Elland Road, Jamie Shackleton is someone who could well save Leeds millions in the transfer market this summer.
His ability with the ball, willingness to learn under Bielsa, and be patient, has served him well in the Championship.
He’ll be hoping for an even bigger impact next season. And under the tutelage of Pablo Hernandez, there’s no reason why Shackleton can’t become a first-team regular for years to come at Elland Road.
