‘Wonderful stuff’: Sky commentator blown away by what Leeds United player did in first-half today

was blown away by what Leeds United midfielder Brenden Aaronson did in the first-half against Crystal Palace today.

Leeds started the game brightly and were rewarded with an early goal from Pascal Struijk in the 10th minute.

Jesse Marsch’s men were pressing relentlessly in the opening 20 minutes and Palace were struggling to deal with the pressure.

Leeds deservedly took the lead after a brilliant solo run from Aaronson and the American received high praise from Smith.

Commentator blown away by Aaronson

Aaronson skipped past four Palace players and appeared to be losing his balance as he stormed into the penalty area.

The 21-year-old managed to direct a brilliant effort towards goal and was unlucky to see it come back off the post. But luckily for Leeds, Struijk was there to convert the rebound and give them the lead.

And Smith was left amazed by Aaronson’s solo run that led to the goal on .

He said: “Well, what a run that was from Brenden Aaronson. It was absolutely sensational!”

“He gets fouled a couple of times along the way, he stumbles through challenges, but he always keeps control of this football. He’s practically beaten the whole of the Palace defence on his own here.

“Wonderful stuff from him and just as you think the chance has gone, Struijk’s on-hand to keep his head and keep the ball down.

“It’s been a typically adventurous, positive start from Leeds and they get their reward.”

Aaronson has been in superb form for the Whites after making the summer switch to Elland Road from RB Salzburg.

The youngster was once again a standout performer for Marsch’s side today and his skill led to Leeds’ opening goal. But he couldn’t manage the same type of impact on the game in the second-half and was replaced by Mateusz Klich in the 74th minute.

Despite their positive start to the game, Leeds found themselves pegged back by Palace against the run of play. Odsonne Edouard headed home after a superb delivery from a free-kick by Michael Olise in the 24th minute.

Marsch will have been disappointed to have not been leading at half-time after dominating the game. But his side didn’t quite manage to make a similar impact in the second-half as Palace grew into the game at Selhurst Park.

Rasmus Kristensen made an excellent block to deny Jordan Ayew a clear-cut chance but Palace did eventually take the lead through Eberechi Eze.

After such a promising start to the game, Marsch will be disappointed to fall to a 2-1 defeat today. His side are now without a win since August and will be hoping to turn their form around against Arsenal at Elland Road next Sunday.
