Wolves submit deadline day bid to sign £17.3m player who Manchester City sold in 2023
- EXCLUSIVE with Graeme Bailey
Wolves have now made a bid to sign a forward Gary O’Neil wants to replace Pedro Neto out wide.
Despite receiving £54m from Chelsea for Neto on Friday 12th August, the Old Gold are yet to spend any of that fee on a replacement for the Portugal international – who was arguably the best player at Molineux before his departure.
Now – however – Wolves have decided to make a bid to sign a player Manchester City sold in 2023 as the hunt for Pedro Neto‘s replacement takes a new turn…
Wolves submit bid to sign Carlos Forbs from Ajax
TBR Football understand that Wolves have now submitted a bid to sign Carlos Forbs from Ajax.
The Portuguese winger – who Ajax signed in a deal from Manchester City back in August 2023 – scored four goals and provided five assists in 34 appearances during his debut campaign in Amsterdam.
Sources have also informed TBR Football that Wolves spoke to Ajax about a deal for Forbs earlier this summer – but have now returned to the negotiating table with an official bid for the man from Sintra.

The amount of this bid has been left undisclosed, but we presume Ajax are hoping to make back that £17.3m fee – or at least most of it – seeing as the Manchester City academy graduate still has four years remaining on his contract.
TBR Football have also been told that Wolves are aiming to sign a new central defender in addition to the 20-year-old, although that would be a loan rather than a permanent deal.
A story elsewhere from in the Netherlands adds that Forbs is expected to receive a significant pay rise on his current £15,000-a-week salary if he does complete a move to Wolves.
Exciting development
Forbs may not have enjoyed the best 2023/24 campaign with Ajax – although the Dutch giants struggled across the board, enduring a disappointing fifth place finish in the Eredivisie – so he was not the only one.
In regards to individual talent, the Ajax No.11 is a special prospect, having remarkably scored goals and also providing 23 assists in just 34 appearances for the Manchester City U18 side.

Interestingly, West Ham even came close to signing Forbs in the summer of 2023 before Ajax hijacked the deal.
For what it’s worth, the Portugal U21 international also netted 26 goals in 38 games in the U21 ranks at Manchester City, so if Wolves can get him to replicate this end product in the Premier League, people at Molineux will quickly forget all about Neto.
