Wolves striker Patrick Cutrone can receive boost with Italy Under-21s
Wolverhampton Wanderers signed Patrick Cutrone in the summer from AC Milan and he’s had a mixed start to life at Molineux.
The centre-forward has shown in patches his intelligence in attack and he already has four assists under his belt.
But he’s returned just one goal in 14 games across all competitions and the jury will remain out on him until he sharpens up his finishing.
The striker is making smart movements whenever on the pitch and looks an ideal understudy to Raul Jimenez in the squad, but he will be judged on his goal output.
Cutrone may have seen the international break arrive at an ideal time for him, as it’s an opportunity to go away to get regular minutes and try find his goalscoring touch.
He’s linked up with the Italy Under-21s side and they face Republic of Ireland on Thursday night, before playing Armenia next Monday.
The 21-year-old should be able to impose himself on those fixtures if selected to start and his confidence will rocket if he can notch a couple of goals.
Cutrone’s start to life in English football has been a decent one, but the pressure over his lack of goals will continue to build and spurning good opportunities is not a good sign.
He played well in the 2-0 away win against Manchester City last weekend, as Adama Traore scored two late goals on the counter attack and wrapped up three points.
But Cutrone started in that contest and missed a great chance, which is not going to help him become a regular in the team due to the quality in the attacking options.
The Italian has a great work-rate and look a strong fit for Nuno Espirito Santo’s side, so fans should hope he comes back after the break with some restored confidence from a few goals.
