Wolves still need another striker even as they edge closer to buying loanee Jimenez
Wolves are edging closer to making loanee Raul Jimenez’s move to Molineux permanent before the end of the season,
They that Nuno Santo can buy the Mexican international for around £30m with a clause that forms part of his current loan deal and the 14 goals he has netted this season has convinced him to do exactly that.
A contract and wage structure has already been agreed between the club and the player – so it appears to be a case of the ball being in Wolves’ court in terms of dotting the is and crossing the tees.
But the feeling persists that Wolves still need more firepower even if they do smash their transfer record to sign Jimenez.
Santo clearly has similar fears – the back in January that he was keen on Aston Villa loanee Tammy Abraham, attempting to convince Chelsea to recall him from Villa Park so they could buy him for £18m.
And Wolves would still need the 21-goal Englishman even if Jimenez signs on the dotted line because while Diogo Jota and Adama Traore are extremely gifted attackers, they are not prolific or out-and-out strikers.
At £18m, Abraham would be decent value – but Chelsea’s transfer ban may impede Wolves’ attempts if they do go back in – but the Old Gold need to add at least one more striker ahead of next season if they want to continue their progress.
