Wolves pair now reportedly worth £126 million

their latest batch of ‘big five European league’ players with the highest transfer market values – and two Wolverhampton Wanderers stars have crept ointo the 100-strong list.

Portuguese pair Diogo Jota and Ruben Neves are now valued at £64 million and £62.4 million respectively, having both had superb seasons in 2018/19.

CIES state that it uses an algorithm to calculate a player’s value.

It apparently takes into account things such as age contract, position, minutes, goals, international status and team results, and the resulting estimates ‘refer to the most likely recruiting club’.

Jota – bought from Atletico Madrid for £12.6 million () – was particularly impressive throughout 2018/19, making 37 appearances and contributing to 17 goals and (10 goals, seven assists).

Neves – a £16 million signing from FC Porto () is viewed by many as Wolves’ prized asset, and impressed in his first season in the English top-flight. His performances saw him linked with a move to Manchester City and Liverpool earlier this year.

TBR’s view

Wolves will not want to sell either player any time soon, but if anything changes on that front they will likely be very well compensated.

Of course, CIES’ valuation is only an estimate and there’s no real telling how accurate their algorithm is.

Jota’s figure seems a little high at first, but arguably he had a better season than Neves last term.

If Neves is worth £62.4 million then Jota surely has to be somewhere close to that.
