Wolves must be pleased they didn’t sign Victor Lindelof after poor start to campaign

Back in May, it appeared Wolverhampton Wanderers were on the hunt for Manchester United defender Victor Lindelof. The £31 million defender struggled for consistency in his debut season at Old Trafford and it appeared the Swede could be loaned out to Molineux for the campaign.

would be helped by super-agent and transfer broker Jorge Mendes, who has strong relationships with Wolves and United boss Jose Mourinho.

But no deal ever came to pass. Wolves tried to stay on the right side of Financial Fair Play this summer and their spending was strong but sensible.

Manchester United, on the other hand, never improved their centre-back options which left it unlikely Lindelof would depart.

Judging by the season so far, Wolves will be pleased they did not bag the Swedish international.

He was poor for United in the recent defeat to Brighton. He then came on against Tottenham last night and struggled. His back pass nearly handed Dele Alli a goal.

Lindelof looks either devoid of confidence, or out of his depth in the Premier League.

Either way, Wolves would not have wanted to wait and find out as they look to establish themselves in the top-flight. Nuno’s men are better off without the Swede.
