Wolves must now be regretting 2023 decision, it surely leaves a sour taste for those at Molineux

Wolves have endured a sticky start to the 2024/25 Premier League campaign.

A summer transfer window in which two key players in Max Kilman and Pedro Neto left for West Ham and Chelsea respectively has shown on the pitch, as Wolves currently find themselves bottom of the Premier League.

TBR Football understand Wolves feel Gary O’Neil was not sufficiently backed when it comes to recruitment – specifically in central defence.

However, we feel a decision made back in July 2023 is haunting those at Molineux more than any recruitment Wolves oversaw in the summer of 2024.

Wolves must regret selling Raul Jimenez to Fulham

In July 2023, Wolves allowed Raul Jimenez to join Fulham for a sum of just £5m.

The fee was reflected by the fact the Mexico international only had 12 months remaining on his contract, although many Wolves fans were still saddened by the decision.

A handful of supporters even spoke to the about the transfer, as you can see below.

Stefan: “More fun and games from the Wolves board! No recognised striker and the one that we do have is being released. So far, we have signed defenders, sold our best midfielder and now we are reducing our almost non-existent strike force. We scored fewer goals than anyone in the league last season and survived. This squad looks even more depleted!”

Arthur: “£5m is a joke. Be fair to him – he had a poor season (so what?). He is a class player. Get him the right partner and the goals will flow. Fulham can see it so why can’t we? He will come back to haunt us, so come on Wolves – keep all the fans happy and keep him.”

Jimenez making significant impact at Craven Cottage

Jimenez – who Conor Coady called “fantastic” – is yet to directly “haunt” Wolves by scoring against the Old Gold, but he is now showing signs of rediscovering his best form at Craven Cottage, in a development that will certainly spook those at Molineux from afar.

As Wolves sit bottom without a reliable source of goals, Fulham are comfortably in sixth place.

The Cottagers have been aided by Jimenez leading the line admirably, scoring three goals in his last three Premier League appearances to help Fulham remain unbeaten from clashes against West Ham, Newcastle and Nottingham Forest.

Of course, Jorgen Strand Larsen is still new to Wolves and has shown glimpses of being able to emulate the Mexican at Molineux, but as things stand, O’Neil probably wishes more was done to keep the 33-year-old in the Midlands, rather than let him join a Premier League rival.
