Wolves legend John Richards praises star pair Jimenez and Jota

Wolverhampton Wanderers legend John Richards has lavished praise on Raul Jimenez and Diogo Jota, and reckons the pair can help themselves to 20 goals each this season.

The duo have made a decent goalscoring start to the new season, with Jimenez having already notched eight in all competitions (six coming in Europa League qualifying) and Jota having scored three (all three coming in EL qualifying).

Last term Jimenez and Jota wowed with their link-up play in the final third, and arguably they are the team’s most important players.

They are yet to really hit top gear in the Premier League, with the team struggling as a collective, but Richards – who scored 194 goals in a 14-year stint with the club – is backing them to shine.

He said (): “Raul is a quality player. You could see how good he was last season with how well he adapted to the Premier League.

“Jota frightens defenders. I think the two of them are very impressive and there’s no reason they can’t both get 20 or 25 goals this season. If you’ve got two strikers doing that, you’re well on your way.”

TBR’s view

It’s a bold prediction from Richards given the club will have a lot of games to play this season.

Jimenez is certainly capable – the Mexican’s eye for goal has really improved since moving to Wolves, and there’s a good chance he’ll reach the 20-goal mark given he’s already on eight and it’s only mid-September.

Jota will do very well to reach 20 goals given he is the more industrious of the two.

The 22-year-old has to drop deep and move out wide at times in order to help make things happen for main man Jimenez.
