Wolves fans demand Ruben Neves is played further forward
Wolverhampton Wanderers travel to Crystal Palace on Sunday for a huge Premier League fixture – and some of the club’s supporters on Twitter have insisted that Ruben Neves should be used in a more offensive role.
The 22-year-old is the deep-lying playmaker in the Wolves team and usually sits at the base of a three-man midfield.
He is a pass master that helps dictate possession from deep and has an incredible range of passing in his locker.
The Portugal international hasn’t quite found his best form so far this campaign and the same could be said for several of his teammates at Molineux.
Wolves are without a win in their opening five Premier League games this season, while they kickstarted their Europa League group in midweek by losing at home to Braga.
The West Midlands outfit need a victory away to Palace on Sunday to help get some points on the board in the league and also to raise confidence in Nuno Espirito Santo’s squad.

A selection of Wolves supporters on social media insist that Neves is playing too deep and would prefer to see him play in a more advanced midfield role.
Romain Saiss or Leander Dendoncker are defensively minded players, who could easily fill his void in front of the defence.
But most of his Wolves career has been spent bossing play from deep and it would be bold to move him now.
Here are some Wolves fans on Neves:
Starting to enter must win territory our defence looks awful and Neves is becoming a ghost so deep so I would like to see Saiss play that role where he is fansastic let Neves push up and be creative give Donks try and cb we don’t have cb I feel confident in rcb atm

At this point, surely a slight tinker with personnel wouldn’t hurt. Would love to see Saiss CDM with Neves and Moutinho in front. Donck can’t pick a killer pass like Neves can, lets utilise his obvious abilities.

Just watching the game back didn’t realise Neves was our new centre back, why on earth is he playing him that deep ?

I think letting neves go forward like dendoncker and making dendoncker stay back and defend would change a lot surely it’s common sense to just change that

Loads of Wolves fans talking about Neves being too deep and effectively occupying the same position as Coady. Surely Nuno, coaches & players can all see this?! Let Dendoncker or Saiss sit and let Ruben roam ?

If Neves keeps moving back he’ll need a pair of gloves soon….

I’m sure he’s been told to play there . Personally I would play Saiss there and push Neves further up with Moutinho this gives us more creativity higher up the pitch. I’m still not convinced about Dendonker playing further forward than Neves.

Surely Dendoncker needs dropping for Sunday. Stick Saiss in the “new Neves role” and allow Neves and Moutinho to push forward and dictate the play.
