Wolves fans are all saying the same thing after Gary O’Neil gets the sack

Gary O’Neil has been sacked by Wolves after his now-former side lost 2-1 to Ipswich Town.

Wolves suffered their latest defeat at the Molineux Stadium, which summed up their nightmarish season in a nutshell.

Matheus Cunha’s equaliser in the 74th minute was deemed futile after Jack Taylor scored a last-gasp winner to further pile on the misery on the hosts.

The Telegraph journalist John Percy took to X to report that Gary O’Neil has been given his marching orders by Wolves.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was pictured during Wolves’ clash against Ipswich, however, it is believed he had made his way to the Molineux Stadium to catch up with Kieran McKenna.

McKenna was a part of Solskjaer’s coaching staff at Manchester United.

Wolves fans felt Gary O’Neil sack was long overdue

As a result, Wolves fans have all stated on X that Gary O’Neil’s sacking was the right decision, with many still wishing him luck for his future endeavours.

One supporter wrote: “Untenable for months, damage already done now for this season.”

Another fan wrote: “Should have gone a long time ago of course but I don’t doubt he gave it his all. Huge job for the next guy.”

A third Wolves fan stated: “Hope Gary gets a Championship job can have a good career. A good guy with some good ideas but the experience and strange decisions have cost him.”

A fourth fan was appreciative of Gary O’Neil but felt it was the right time for him to leave the club.

“Thanks for everything Gary. This time last year we were playing some of the best football that I’ve witnessed from any Wolves team, and we made some fantastic memories… It’s now time for this club to get back on its feet though. Make the right choice please Jeff [Shi, Wolves chairman].”

Another supporter wrote: “Great but three months too late.”

A Wolves fan reflected on the good times Gary O’Neil brought to the club.

“It was best for both parties to part ways now, but we had some good memories. West Brom home and away, the two Spurs home and away, the Chelsea home and away, City H. So many good days, but even his comments over the last few weeks made it seem he knew himself that it was time. All the best Gary, thank you.”

O’Neil knew Wolves sack was inevitable if the results didn’t change

In the aftermath of Wolves’ loss at the hands of Ipswich, Gary O’Neil was well-aware that he would be sacked if the results remained as poor as they have been this season.

O’Neil said via : “That group need me to get them in a place where they’re ready to go and I’ll keep fighting for them. And that doesn’t mean I’m not going to get sacked. For every result, the chances of me losing my job will heighten, that’s nothing new, it doesn’t concern me.”

“When I speak to Matt [Hobbs, sporting director] and Jeff [Shi], they’ll tell me I’ll need to do more otherwise they’ll replace me. That’s the same message for the players, you need to do more to compete at this level or you’ll get replaced. That’s how the business works.”

“I’m not interested in my own position – I know the work I do every day and I know the situation we’re in. To get this group to perform the way they did took a lot of work today. People can point the finger at me but some of the responsibilities have to land on the players in those moments.”

“When we get in good positions and we spoon the ball off the pitch, I can’t help them with that.”

Wolves fans will hope that now that Gary O’Neil has been sacked, the best possible replacement is hired to resurrect their season and save them from potential relegation.
