£16m Domagoj Vida would help Wolves secure top-flight safety
After a six year absence, Wolves are back in the Premier League and their planned swoop for Domagoj Vida shows their intention to compete.
Nuno Esprito Santo has not been afraid to throw money into the squad ahead of the 2018-19 season, landing eye-catching deals to bring the likes of Rui Patricio, Diogo Jota, Joao Moutinho and Jonny to the club.
The side already established already looks more than capable of punching their weight in the top-flight next season but the majority of dealings from Wolves this summer have been attack-minded, with defensive additions lacking.
It seems that could change in the final few days of the transfer window as  states that Wolves have lodged a £16m bid for Besiktas centre-back Domagoj Vida, who caught the eye at the World Cup in Russia for runners-up Croatia.
A host of Premier League sides, including West Ham and Liverpool, have been linked with the services of the 29-year-old but interest has cooled, potentially leaving the door wide open for Wolves to jump to the front of the queue.
After a stellar World Cup campaign, Vida has shown that he has the capability of going toe-to-toe with some of the best attacking players in the world and would certainly be able to cope with the rigours of Premier League football.
Given the calibre of clubs that have been linked to his services, landing Vida would also be a huge statement of intent from Wolves ahead of their first campaign back in the top-flight and could provide the catalyst towards securing survival.
“I really like Vida, I have really enjoyed watching him at the World Cup. Look we did not want to sell Cenk, Marcelo or Ersan but you saw what happened, it is the situation we find ourselves in. Just because we don’t want to sell does not mean we won’t sell. We do not want Vida to leave but for the right price? We will see.�/strong>
Capped 65 times by Croatia, Vida has spent the majority of his career in eastern Europe but is now in the prime years of his career and can become the leader of Wolves�defence, providing protection to new stopper Patricio.
However, Wolves could face vast competition in the market over the coming days as has stated that Arsenal are plotting a bid worth £25m for the defender �although they will need to offload first in order to finance a deal.
