Wolves are surely in a much better position than Leeds to sign Bruno Viana

Leeds United are reportedly rivalling Wolverhampton Wanderers and two other Premier League sides for Braga defender Bruno Viana – but surely Wolves are in the best chance to sign the defender.

that Leeds are taking on Wolves, Leicester City and Bournemouth in the race to sign the 24-year-old defender. He has been in excellent form for Braga this season.

Indeed, Viana has played 27 of Braga’s 28 league games this season. He has helped them concede at a ratio of just one league goal a game, as Braga sit above expectations in fourth position.

Leeds desperately need a centre-back. Liam Cooper and Pontus Jansson are the two main centre-back options, but Marcelo Bielsa has little after that to choose from.

Gaetano Berardi, Luke Ayling and Kalvin Phillips have all played out of position when one of the aforementioned duo are unavailable due to injury or suspension. Aapo Halme remains a rookie in the Under-23 side.

Viana is rock-solid. A no-nonsense defender, Viana is excellent in the air but has added a composure and a leadership to his game this season. That has seen the interest in his services hot up.

Braga rate Viana between £8million and £10million. But surely Wolves have the best chance of signing Viana above Leeds as well as Leicester and Bournemouth, because of their connections to super agent Jorge Mendes.

With the help of Mendes, Wolves signed Rui Patricio from Sporting Lisbon, Raul Jimenez from Benfica – a move which has been made permanent – and Willy Boly from FC Porto. Mendes was key to all.

Those kind of connections in Portugal will surely give Wolves the best chance of landing Viana ahead of Leeds. It remains to be seen where Viana will end up, given that he has a contract until the summer of 2023.
