With deadline closing, West Ham could regret treatment of Reece Oxford

Not so long ago, Reece Oxford seemed to be West Ham’s next big thing. Now, he is just another under 23s player who has very little role to play for the first team, having not been involved under Manuel Pellegrini since pre-season.

Nottingham Forest and Eintracht Frankfurt have both been linked this January by , but with a deadline nearing, no deal hasn’t yet been struck and it seems that he may spend another six months with the club’s second string.

At no time has Pellegrini showed any hint of remorse or suggested that he would recall the 20-year-old, who is under contract until 2021, but some may wonder just how long the Chilean can continue to ignore him for.

With first team regular Angelo Ogbonna failing to impress in recent weeks, Oxford may be a natural candidate to compete for a spot in the side, particularly as the Hammers keep one eye on the future.

Instead, it seems that the club’s short-term focus may cost them dear in a player who Frankfurt are supposedly ready to pay £8 million for after just eight Premier League appearances.

Where Oxford will be plying his trade come February 1st may be pivotal to his development and progress, but West Ham would surely be forced to reconsider their decision to ignore him for first team action.
