Tottenham’s Harry Winks must start for England after Iniesta comparison

Harry Winks has played often for Tottenham during recent weeks and his performances have earned an England recall. He is in the squad to face Croatia and Spain over the coming days.

His Tottenham team-mate Danny Rose has been speaking about Winks to the press. The report the following quote:

“The gaffer [Mauricio Pochettino] has said how highly he thinks of Harry. He’s called him ‘the Little Iniesta’ — and that speaks volumes.”

That is high praise from Pochettino and underlines the reputation that Winks has at Tottenham. He has featured in six of the club’s Premier League matches this season. It hasn’t a perfect start, but there have been flashes of his ability against some very good teams.

Winks looks to get on the ball and dictate the tempo from central areas. He enables a team to be more dynamic in possession as he is frequently looking to make a forward pass.

England had a great World Cup, but they lacked a midfielder that could provide a creative spark in deeper areas. Winks could be the missing piece of the jigsaw for Gareth Southgate.

The 22-year-old deserves a chance to secure a regular starting position during this international break.
