William Saliba says Arsenal are so ‘lucky’ that £30m star plays for them
Arsenal have at least one top-quality player in every position on the pitch.
Mikel Arteta took over a side that was ageing, overpaid and underperforming in 2019. The atmosphere around the club was toxic at the time as well, and the Gunners were really in a bad place.
However, with excellent recruitment over the last few years, Arteta has built a truly tremendous Arsenal side that’s capable of beating any team on their day.
It’s hard to pick who Arsenal’s best player is because they’re all so good. But, the most important one is arguably their skipper Martin Odegaard.
William Saliba delivers verdict on Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard
Arsenal signed Martin Odegaard on a permanent deal from Real Madrid in the summer of 2022.
The Norway international cost the Gunners just £30 million (), which is an absolute bargain when you consider what he has achieved in recent years.
Odegaard was named as the Arsenal captain by Arteta following the departures of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette.
The midfielder has been unbelievable since. His performances on the pitch have been incredible, but the way he has led the team has been nothing short of extraordinary as well.
William Saliba has played with Odegaard for two full seasons now, and the France international has claimed that Arsenal are ‘lucky’ to have a player like the Norwegian at the club.
He told at the PFA Awards even on Tuesday night: “We’re lucky to have him. He’s a great leader, a great player. He shows us how to win, he shows us a lot of things.
“When your captain plays like this, all the team can follow. So, we are lucky to have him and I hope he has a great season again.”

There’s one thing Martin Odegaard must improve this season
Odegaard is just a joy to watch on the pitch.
Some of the things the former Real Madrid man does are nothing short of incredible, and he is rightly a fan favourite at the club.
However, Odegaard will agree that there are things he could improve on. One of them is his goal tally.
In the 2022/23 season, Odegaard scored 15 goals in the Premier League, which is a terrific return for an attacking midfielder. However, that figure dropped to eight last season.
Yes, Odegaard does a lot on the pitch that goes unnoticed in stats, but if he can do all that and score 15 or so goals a season, Arsenal will become much better than they already are.
