William Saliba and Riccardo Calafiori left in awe of £23m Arsenal player in 2-2 draw vs Man City

Arriving back in north London, the Arsenal players and coaches will likely be feeling just as proud as they were disappointed with their late draw against Manchester City.

Arsenal were only minutes away from delivering a historical win away from home at City, a result almost made possible owing to goals from Riccardo Calafiori and Gabriel Magalhaes.

💙Mikel Arteta’s side were overwhelmed early on, City deserved their early lead through Erling Haaland.

🎀But once Calafiori struck a remarkable effort from the edge of the box, the tides changed.

🐼The Italian inspired a response, and Arsenal were then able to get out of their half and show a bit of authority on the ball.

ಌIn addition to Calafiori’s wonder goal, Gabriel also scored a trademark header to take the game to 2-1 – a remarkable threat from set-pieces right now.

The likes of William Salibaﷺ are a threat from Arsenal’s excellent set-pieces too, but Gabriel simply has a different aura right now, an inevitability that he’s going to win the ball.

ꦡThat being said, after securing another Player of the Match award away from home, the centre-back – who cost Arsenal in 2020 – took to to celebrate a strong showing.

🎀Arsenal didn’t win, but still had a lot to be proud of.

🍸Gabriel uploaded a collection of photos with a caption of: “Massive effort from the boys!! Happy to score and help the team! Thanks for your support Gunners!! We go again.”

𒀰Saliba, Calafiori and Declan Rice left messages of support, evidently very grateful to play alongside the Brazilian.

Myles Lewis-Skelly sets new Arsenal record

ꦗGiven how fatigued the likes of Calafiori and Jurrien Timber became during Arsenal’s defensive efforts, Arteta turned to the likes of Jakub Kiwior and Myles Lewis-Skelly late in the game.

📖17-year-old Lewis-Skelly will have surely been as delighted as he was nervous stepping into such a situation, a player who clearly has his manager’s trust.

That being said, ౠLewis-Skelly set a new record for Arsenal last night, before he even got onto the pitch.

✅And it certainly wouldn’t be a surprise if the youngster lined up alongside the likes of Ethan Nwaneri and Raheem Sterling against Bolton on Wednesday.

ꦗThe EFL cup tie will be something of a relief in comparison to recent fixtures, an exciting chance for Arteta to rotate his squad.
