William Gallas names the one Arsenal player who can deal with Erling Haaland right now
William Gallas has been discussing all things Premier League and believes Arsenal have the right player to cope with Erling Haaland right now.
Haaland is the once again this season, with his 14 goals putting him three clear of Mo Salah in second. The Norwegian is currently out injured, and it remains to be seen if he’ll feature over Christmas for City.
Of course, Haaland’s loss is Arsenal’s gain. The Gunners are currently top of the table as it stands and go into the festive period knowing a big few wins could be massive. Indeed, they are five points clear of Pep Guardiola’s side as it stands.
And in what some might see as a further boost for Arsenal, former defender William Gallas believes that in William Saliba, the Gunners have the man to handle Haaland.
William Saliba told he can handle Erling Haaland
Speaking to magazine , Gallas had some kind words for Saliba when asked just how he’d tackle the City striker.
“It would have been very difficult for me to play against Erling Haaland, he’s a big guy! I don’t know how I would have gone about facing him. To play against such a big guy, you have to be strong and be an intelligent defender like William Saliba. Saliba can manage to hold off Haaland in duels as he did at the beginning of the season in particular. In my time, there were great strikers with imposing stature like Didier Drogba but when he played against Manchester United he always had difficult matches against Nemanja Vidic,” Gallas said.
Saliba is now one of the Premier League’s best
There can be no doubt now that William Saliba is one of the best in England at what he does. The clean sheet stats this season say it all, with the Frenchman out in front having being involved in helping Arsenal
The Gunners paid to sign Saliba and while there was a point in time when he was on loan and looking like never coming back, he’s excelled ever since that move to Marseille and subsequent return.
Saliba is driving Arsenal towards this title. And you can bet that if the Gunners do indeed win it all, then the Frenchman will have played a big role.
As Gallas says, few can handle Haaland and Saliba is as equipped as anyone to do so.
