Jesse Marsch says he’ll unleash ‘world-class’ talent for Leeds tonight

Leeds United manager Jesse Marsch has confirmed that Junior Firpo will start for the Whites in tonight’s Premier League match.

The Elland Road outfit will be heading to Leicester City hoping to stop a run of six games without a victory.

Leeds made a bright start to the 2022-23 campaign, picking up seven points from their opening three league games.

However, the Whites have since accumulated only two points from their last six fixtures.

Leeds are up against another side struggling for form, with Brendan Rodgers’ Foxes sitting bottom of the table.

Speaking to ahead of the game, Marsch confirmed that Firpo will come in for the injured Pascal Struijk.

“Junior will start and he will be ready, patiently waiting,” said the Whites boss.

“Excited for him to get his chance to show he’s ready.”

‘Among the best in our team’

Firpo will be making only his second appearance of the season – and 20th start in the league – for Leeds tonight.

The 26-year-old has suffered from a series of injuries and a lack of form, leading to some criticism of the player.

However, Marsch reckons Firpo has what it takes to shine at Elland Road.

“I have heard criticisms,” the Leeds boss said about a player Angus Kinnear called “world-class”.

“But since I have been here he has only tried his best to adapt to be the best player for me.

“His passing and technical ability is among the best in our team.

“Tactical awareness is keen and if he can continue to add aggression he can become a real two-way player.”
