Will Ryan Edmondson earn Leeds opportunity before the season ends?
Ryan Edmondson’s stock continues to rise at Leeds United after yet another goal for the club’s Under-23 team last night.
The 17-year-old bagged his 17th goal of the season as Carlos Corberan’s team comfortably beat Ipswich Town 3-0 in the Professional Development League.
Edmondson is probably at the perfect club in Leeds.
One thing that Marcelo Bielsa hasn’t ignored since arriving last summer is the club’s ever-growing list of talented youth players.
Which asks the question of just how close to the first-team is the prolific talisman?
Well, Bielsa was forced to answer such a question during his press conference yesterday.
“He is a very young player. At this moment in his position players like Roofe, Bamford and Tyler Roberts have played well.
“There’s a very important difference, I’m talking about experience, between these three players and Ryan but has made a very good improvement from the beginning of the season.”
Those comments bode well for Edmondson moving forward. The level of Bamford’s performance on Saturday also offers him hope of a first-team call-up.
If anything it probably isn’t doing him any favours that Leeds are embroiled in one of the closely run automatic promotion battles in recent years.
Had Leeds’ season petered out, he might have had a look in by now.
Bielsa is aware of him, however, and that can only be a good thing. If anything he could be a wildcard selection for the boss before the season ends.
To use Edmondson in the same bracket as Roofe, Bamford and Roberts could make him next in line should anything happen to one of those players.
He isn’t a complete novice either. Edmondson has two senior appearances to his name and looks like a genuine star for the future.
With 17 goals at Under-23 level his chance to shine could be forthcoming before the end of the season.
Leeds’ fortunes on the pitch in the next couple of weeks could dictate exactly when that might be.
