Celtic’s academy graduate Mikey Johnston signed a new deal on Tuesday to extend his stay at Parkhead until 2023
The Bhoys confirmed that the 19-year-old attacker has penned his new contract and he’s surely now got to be aiming to make the next step in his career.
He is a skilful winger that is being integrated into the first team and made nine first-team appearances so far this season, starting in four of them.
Johnston is a wide man with great pace and directness in the final third, but has some job on his hands if he is to get a regular look-in for the starting XI.
Current Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers is the perfect manager to oversee his development and isn’t afraid to throw him in at senior level.

His new deal should certainly give him a major lift moving forward and perhaps it will be the catalyst for him.
Johnston has made a couple of bright performances where he looks good on the ball, but is still waiting to net his first Celtic goal and is in direct competition with the likes of Scott Sinclair and James Forrest for a starting position.
He definitely has time on his side and there is no immediate pressure on him, but it will interesting to see if he can make further strides forward this season.
