Will Jose Mourinho be able to partner Marcus Rashford and Romelu Lukaku successfully at Manchester United?

Manchester United, with the acquisition of £75 million striker Romelu Lukaku, possess one of the most frightening attacks in the league, made up of a host of talented players.

However, the question has been posed as to how manager Jose Mourinho will fit all these players into his team, and balance the egos and demands of some of football’s top stars.

This week, the charismatic coach did offer some insight into the futures of newly-arrived Romelu Lukaku and English wonder kid Marcus Rashford. He suggested that the pair could work alongside each other as a striking two.

He told : “Today [Rashford] was in a different team than Lukaku. But in this pre-season we will also try both in the same team which I think can also work.”

Having one of the Premier League’s most clinical and prolific goal-scorers alongside a young talent like Rashford is a frightening prospect for opposition sides, but something that will water the mouths of the Old Trafford faithful.

Mourinho went on to praise the ‘natural evolution’ of the 19-year-old striker, citing his physical growth in terms of both height and stature.

Everyone is aware of the youngster’s finishing ability, but in order to continue his success in the Premier League, and improve upon his five goals in the league last time out, Rashford must be able to compete and battle with the Premier League’s most physical and combative defenders.

This is no issue for Romelu Lukaku, who, at six-foot-two-inches tall and weighing around 90 kilograms, is a monster of a man.

The pair, both relatively still young, Lukaku, 24 and Rashford, 19, still have time to develop and grow. In the same team and, potentially in the same starting line-up, the forwards could really help one-another fulfil their potentials, and all the while banging in the goals. At least, that is what Manchester United fans will be hoping.

Whether or not the pair find a connection on the pitch is to be seen, but the prospect of having Marcus Rashford and Romelu Lukaku line up as a starting two is very exciting.

Very different types of players, their play styles could work in absolute harmony or be a monumental disaster. Manchester United fans will be hoping it will be the former, which could just turn out to be a stroke of genius by Jose Mourinho.
