Will Izzy Brown be worth the wait for Leeds United in January?
In one of the strangest deals of the summer, Leeds United completed the loan signing of Chelsea’s Izzy Brown, despite knowing that an Anterior Cruciate Ligament injury in his knee would keep him out until mid-way through the season.
Managing Director Angus Kinnear wrote in his that the youngster is now expected to return in January, with Leeds and Chelsea working together closely to get him back to fitness as soon as possible.
The notes hint that Leeds are paying very little for the loan agreement while Brown is sidelined, but with such a great need for options in attack with Kemar Roofe and Patrick Bamford injured, that may be of little consolation.
The 21-year-old was on loan with Brighton & Hove Albion last season in the Premier League, but made only four starts in the league and was limited to a bit part role for the most part.
However, there can be few doubts about his quality. Last time he was plying his trade in the second tier was with Huddersfield as he helped fire the Terriors to promotion, starting 17 of the 23 games he was available for.
Playing as a shadow striker, he would be ideal to add creativity to the Whites team with Samu Saiz struggling for his best form and injuries striking down Marcelo Bielsa’s strikers.
It may be frustrating to wait so long for a summer signing, but he could well be worth it.
