Why Steven Gerrard and Rangers can help Arsenal complete £28m deal – TBR View

Andre Villas-Boas has won over Marseille fans by guiding the French side to second in Ligue 1 with his outlandish tactics and excellent work in the transfer market – and his next potential deal could hand Arsenal a massive transfer boost.

former Tottenham manager Villas-Boas is interested in luring Rangers midfielder Glen Kamara to the French side. The Finland international came through the ranks at Arsenal.

But since joining Rangers from Dundee in January 2019, Kamara has impressed – especially on the Europa League stage. Though Marseille face competition from Aston Villa and Brighton, Kamara could find himself in the Champions League.

That is because Marseille are keen, given that the midfielder is valued at just £8.8million. Steven Gerrard landed Kamara for a bargain £50,000 from Dundee, and that means he could sanction a deal for Kamara – if such an offer comes in for him.

Naturally a holding midfielder, Kamara may be viewed by Villas-Boas as a replacement – rather than an addition. That is because Arsenal are one of a number of sides reportedly interested in signing current Marseille star Boubacar Kamara.

Arsenal are tracking Marseille’s 20-year-old star Kamara, who has already clocked up 79 senior outings. Naturally a centre-back, he has been moved into midfield by Villas-Boas – and starred in the anchor role.

Marseille want as much as £28million for the uncapped French star, a fee which Arsenal can easily afford. But Villas-Boas is unlikely to want to sell one of his prized assets until he has brought in a replacement.

So, if Gerrard sanctions the sale of Rangers ace Kamara to Marseille with Villas-Boas keen on the 24-year-old midfielder, then Arsenal will surely find their pursuit of the younger Kamara much more successful – given that Marseille already have their replacement.
