‘Why’, ‘so harsh’: Some Spurs fans react to ‘strange’ Mourinho decision in starting XI for tonight’s game

A number of Tottenham Hotspur fans have reacted to the team news ahead of their Europa League game today, wondering why Carlos Vinicius was not picked in the Spurs starting XI.

The 25-year-old striker has enjoyed a bright start to life at Tottenham since joining on loan from Benfica last month.

Vinicius has made two appearances for Spurs so far, and though he’s yet to score, he has notched up two assists, both in the Europa win over LASK.

However, the Brazilian was one of four players taken off at half time in the loss to Antwerp, and then missed out on the matchday squad for the win over Brighton.

Vinicius’ absence from the squad to face the Seagulls appeared harsh, given he was one of Tottenham’s better players in the opening 45 minutes in Belgium, providing a focal point for their attack and showing good hold-up play.

According to , Vinicius did not have an injury and it was simply a decision made by Jose Mourinho for the game along with the other players left out.

The Portuguese was apparently seeking to send a message that nobody’s place in a matchday squad is safe.

With Tottenham now taking on Ludogorets Razgrad, some fans hoped the new striker would start, but Mourinho has instead opted for Gareth Bale, Lucas Moura and Harry Kane in attack.
