Why Raul Jimenez and Wolves could hand Newcastle a major transfer boost

Newcastle United’s soon-to-be new owners have identified Juventus striker Gonzalo Higuain as a potential signing in the coming months – and Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Raul Jimenez could hand the Toon a major boost.

Higuain, 32, has dropped down the pecking order somewhat at Juventus with Cristiano Ronaldo and Paulo Dybala becoming first choice under Maurizio Sarri. Of his 34 appearances during 2019-20, Higuain has completed 90 minutes just 11 times.

Newcastle are keen on the 75-time Argentina international this summer, and Juventus are willing to sanction a deal – as long as it is only a loan, and Newcastle are willing to contribute to his £130,000-a-week wages.

However, Juventus are likely to want a replacement before letting Higuain go – and that is where both Wolves and Jimenez step in. the Mexican powerhouse is interesting Juventus ahead of a summer window.

The latter report says Juventus are keen to get rid of number nine Higuain’s wages amid the global health crisis and the financial restraints that the suspension of football has had on even the biggest clubs – such as the Old Lady.

It remains to be seen if Juventus can tempt Wolves into selling Jimenez, but a move to the Italian champions is likely to tempt the Wolves striker. Wolves and Jimenez, then, can hand Newcastle a huge boost in the Toon’s reported pursuit of Higuain.
