Why Leeds should hope Eddie Nketiah joins Sheffield Wednesday
When Eddie Nketiah was recalled from his loan spell at the start of the month, the biggest concern for most Leeds United supporters was arguably not the fact that he was not going to be available to Marcelo Bielsa during the Whites’ promotion push.
Nketiah is clearly an incredibly talented prospect. And it would be absolutely no surprise to see him enjoy a successful career at Arsenal. It must also be noted that he did score three important league goals while at Elland Road.

But there was a general acceptance that he did not seem to be quite the right player for Bielsa’s style of play.
The biggest concern for most Leeds fans therefore, is what happens next. While it has not worked at Leeds, it is clear that he could be devastating in another second tier squad.

And it appears that he has no shortage of options to pick from.
that Sheffield Wednesday, Nottingham Forest and Bristol City are in talks with the Gunners about signing Nketiah.
With all three in the top-half of the Championship, Leeds’s ideal scenario would surely be for Arsenal to decide that they are holding onto Nketiah.
But if he is Championship-bound, perhaps it would be fair for Whites fans to wish that he heads to Hillsborough over either of the other two sides – even if that does mean linking up with former Leeds boss Garry Monk.
Leeds face both Forest and the Robins in February. Should Nketiah join either, he could be ready to come up against Bielsa’s men and potentially put a dent in their promotion push.
Meanwhile, the Whites face Wednesday this weekend. So unless something dramatic happens, there looks to be no chance of the Championship leaders facing Nketiah during the regular season.
Nketiah could however, face every other side in the top seven from February onwards. So he could potentially help take points off of all Leeds’s promotion rivals.
Of course, with the season just past the halfway point, the fixture list is not dramatically different for Forest and City. But crucially, unlike Wednesday, they both face Leeds after the window has closed.
With such a significant advantage over the chasing pack, Leeds will be hoping that they do not need to worry about what Nketiah does during the remaining months of the season.
But perhaps it is fair to suggest that Nketiah joining Wednesday is the best way for Leeds to get a small boost from his next move if he is Championship-bound.
